June 9 - 12 I went to JerangKang waterfall in Kuantan, Malaysia. The first night was spent at the Mosque.
Early the next morning we travelled to the base of the waterfall. The 45min lorry drive up to the base was super bumpy! The route is super NOT butt-friendly. The trek from the base to the campsite was only 10minutes. It's MUCH easier than the trek to berkelah campsite coz this one has a distinct pathway and no big rocks or river to cross. =)
I don't really like the campsite though. A lot of soil and leaves and have to walk a bit to reach the waterfall.
The 2nd day I trekked up with the 1st group. I was the 1st aider! First time leh! Thank GOD I have Loretta (experienced First aider!) with me. I LOVE the trek up...coz it's less dangerous than the berkelah one. This one the trek is always in the forest and very very VERY SAFE. The berkelah one I almost fell to my death. Haha. I always tell myself, "I cannot die...if I die, I will break the hospital bond and my family have to pay back a lot". Yah. So pray REALLY hard for safety.
I also prayed for good weather. Though it did rain, but the rain only came after everyone is back from trekking. So God is still good!
When we reached the top, we had photo-taking and then there was a jump! The jump was quite okay...the cliff not as high as I expected.
Going down time! There was another jump before the group split into the trekking group and the water group. The cliff was FREAKING HIGH. Oh my gosh...I was so tempted to run away. Could feel my heart thumping out of my ribcage. Could see I wasn't the only one scared. Haha! So felt rather comforted. I realised Wei Ni and I have the same tactic. Once we are on the platform of the cliff, listen to instructions and immediately just jump off, DON"T THINK SO MUCH.
So I jumped as soon as I heard instructions from Rafi. I saw the cold hard water surface rushing up to me then SPLASH. =) So fun!
Bravo to Loretta and Wei Ni who went plunging down too!
Loretta and I and many others took the water route down. SO SO SO FUN! There was one point we had to cross a log that fell in the middle of the river. I was too big to go underneath the log, and too short to jump over. So I had go over slowly, but I tried to jump and I went tumbling down on the other side of the log. So embarrassing. AHHHH!!
We did quite a lot of swimming. It's really great that people like Pang Keng, Vin and Rafi were there to help us around. And yah..got ANDY too..our macho lifeguard!
When we finally reached the campsite. We played slide! 2 persons sat on a mat and go zig-zagging down a short water route before the waterfall cascades down.
Then it was dinner and wash up time. Briefing etc. I think I talk too soft. But I sound very loud to myself. Hhhhmmm...Mr.Wilfred say I'm like talking to myself. Hahaha...okay will try to talk louder. I was dead tired la.
Finally it was time to sleep! I was sleeping side by side Loretta, but in the morning I was at her feet. Oh my gosh, I turned 90 degress during the night. In the middle of the night I felt this big pokey rock. So I must have shifted so much that I ended up 90 degrees away from the original spot. I must say, I woke up feeling very disorientated. Haha!
The 2nd day, those who trekked up stayed at base camp for water activities. For the first hour or so I was the SENTRY for the camp! I sat on a high rock and watched the campsite! =) Frantically searching for any wild boars (pang keng call them wild bowl..haha) and suspicious people. Anyway, it was a very relaxing day. I did abseiling down a real rock face. So cool! Was scared out of my wits can. I slipped twice and yah, had this feeling the rope will snap and I'll go plunging to my death. Anyhow, I reached the bottom safety and I stationed there to help the others who were abseiling down. Some of them swam back to shore while others prusiked up. When the abseiling station closed, everyone went back to shore including the lifeguard and 2 support persons to standby in case any swimmers swimming back to shore has any difficulty. YAH. Then Mr.Wilfred shouted to me, "SWIM BACK". I was like...WHAT? So okay, I said, "oh LORD, GET ME BACK TO SHORE PLEASE!"
The current was mighty strong. I had to swim against the rock. The current kept pushing me towards the rock and I keep kicking the rocks, pain la. Also, can feel this sucking force that pulls you down into the water. Was swimming for my life. And I drank several gulps of water, had to hold the rocks to cough for a while. Haha...
I made it shore after much struggling. =) Almost wanted to kneel on the rock and kiss the ground. But that will be too dramatic...like the mind bo ho seh. haha.
Then went to cook dinner with Charlene, along with Tess, Loretta and rafi. Hee hee. I learnt something, NEVER put pasta in when the water is not boiling. HAHA.
That night we had a few musical performances from each group then the committee went up to perform. AHHH. Oh...Thank you Tess for spending 2.5hours cooking a pot of beehoon. You rock!
During sentry duty time, I told my group a story about my experience at the supermarket. SUPER FUNNY their reactions. Then we shared a few jokes around, book of theory (pang keng) started his lecture on massaging.
Finally I decided to retire to my sleeping area. Talked a bit with Loretta and Tess, then Tess went to sleep! So I talked to Loretta. Nice to talk her! And she finally remembered me. Even though I've been around for a year, she didn't know I existed. It's okay...haha!
At about 3.30am we decided to call it a night. Next morning woke up at 5.20am to pack up etc.
I HATE THE MORNING DIP. Imagine you're a crab, and suddenly you're dumped into a pot of boiling water. CAN DIE RIGHT. Yah...just that now you're dumped into freezing cold water. GOSH.
While we were waiting for our lorry to come bring us to the Mosque, we played the Mary Harry game! Min and Pang Keng kena 5 dots! HA HA.
Pang Keng got leeched by a leech. Wah..the leech's saliva really act like anti-coagulant. Haha. Took so long with direct pressure to stop the bleeding. Learnt sth, NEVER PULL A LEECH OUT, or else its teeth will get stuck to your leg.
I did a dressing change for Kama's big toe, with the help of Loretta of course. Learnt another thing! If the cotten bud is frayed, don't use it, or the fluffy stuff will stick onto the wound. Yes indeed!
=)
The food house next to the mosque has really nice food! =)
The bus journey back was fun! Everyone slept at first. Ai Kim wanted to sleep on the floor so she could lie flat. So I slept on 2 seats, WAH SO SO COMFORTABLE. HAHA. =)
I can't remember when everyone started to wake up and all the jokes and camp-whoring started again. HAHA.
We reached school really late, about 8pm. Wash up equipment and debriefing. Committee debrief (accompanied with pizza) took quite long. By 11pm plus I really needed to go le. And, thank God Loretta's dad could fetch myself and Vin! Yay! THANKS LOADS!
I got home, quickly unpack and packed again. Took a short nap and zoom off to the airport.
Reached Palace of the Golden Horses in KL, Malaysia at 9.30am.
The camp was quite good. The sudden switch from living in the wilderness to luxury was rather shocking.
Okay, gotta study pharmacology le. Bye!
